Exogenous application of agmatine improves water stress and salinity stress tolerance in turnip (Brassica rapa L.)

This study was carried out to determine the consequence of foliar application agmatine (0 and 0.5 mM), on growth, physiological biochemical traits, yield turnip (Brassica rapa L.) plants grown under water stress or salt conditions. The effect three irrigation regimes (100%, 80% 40% field capacity) concentrations (0, 100 200 mM NaCl) in pots greenhouse conditions were studied. Water deficit developed at Field capacity (FC) salinity stress, especially mM, resulted significant decreases all growth parameters when compared control (100% FC) including root length diameter as well shoot weights per plant. high negatively affected most characteristics such total chlorophyll, photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate. use efficiency (WUE) increased FC NaCl. Antioxidant enzymes activity, catalase peroxidase glutathione reductase, with stress. Foliar seemed alleviate adverse effects turnip. Alleviating harmful enhancing tolerance by associated improving leaf gas exchange, antioxidant protein profile.
